Celebrating Earth Day with Eco-friendly & Sustainable Products
Innovation, technology, and modernization have definitely improved the lives of human beings. However, the downside of development has been detrimental to the environment. Our current way of living of continuous consumption has taken a toll on our planet.
What can we do to prevent further destruction to our environment? We can start with ourselves by changing our habits in terms of consumption and consumerism.
Living in a capitalist society that thrives in consumerism, we can do our part by being constantly aware of how we spend our dollars. Where do we spend our money? What do we buy? Are the things we buy necessary in our lives?
You can vote for a better world with your dollar and you can do this by choosing wisely where it goes. It’s as simple as making sure that through your dollar you are supporting ethical and sustainable brands that are for the people and the planet!
Earth Day Collection
This month we are celebrating Earth Day and we at WellJourn created the Earth Day Collection made of upcycled, recycled, and natural materials for you and your home. Apart from being earth-friendly, this collection is certified fair trade, made by artisans around the world. You’d also be happy to know that 1% of every sale is donated to the The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation supporting tree planting and sustainable food sources worldwide. We do this all year round!
Recycled and Ethically-made
Do you enjoy journaling the old-school way? If you do, you’re in for a treat with our journals with covers made of recycled sari from India. They are colorful filled with handmade paper with covers that were sewn from exquisite recycled saris. We have three designs: Small Pink Journal, Large Earth Tone Journal, and Large Yellow Journal.
These journals are handmade using recycled materials by artisans in India at Mohd Israil's workshop, one of many fair trade workshops sponsored by Noah’s Ark, and founded in 1986 by Samuel Masih, one of the leaders in the movement to pay fair wages to artisans in India.
Natural and Sustainable
An alternative to plastic and other materials for your kitchenware is wood. Better yet if they are made of reclaimed wood such as our Olive Wood Salt Pot, hand carved in Kenya. We are also particularly in love with the Hand-carved Olive Wood Bowls that comes in two sizes: 7.5 inches and 6 inches. Complete your salad set with our Olive Twig Salad Servers or Hands Salad Servers.
Carving is a tradition in Kenya with the children learning the craft from their parents. They use only rudimentary hand tools to make wood bowls, salad serving sets, and animal-shaped napkin rings from pieces of olive wood, mahogany, and mpingo, or "African Ebony". We partnered with Jedando Modern Handicrafts employing and working with over 100 individual carvers in Machakos, Kenya.
Fair Trade Fashion
People and the planet should not suffer for the sake of fashion. With that in mind, We’ve added beaded jewelry made of recycled materials to our Earth Day Collection that you can be proud to wear. Accent your ensemble with recycled glass beads in purple and pink or with a red necklace made of recycled glass beads and coconut shell seeds. The pop of colors from these necklaces made by women from New Delhi, India are sure to spruce up your casual attire.
These are just some of our favorites. Go ahead and explore more ethically-made products from our Earth Day Collection.
